Universal Design for Learning

Universal Design for Learning

By Danielle Ferraro and Marissa Michaud

What is it?

First of all, What is Universal Design for Learning? UDL for short, is a type of learning that focuses on variability amongst learners rather than disability. This type of education makes the learning environment as flexible, and accommodating as possible for all learners. Curriculums that utilize UDL are designed to cater to all learners, and customizations are not an afterthought. UDL takes all needs into account to promote a supportive learning environment for all. The broad term, assistive technology is a means of UDL that makes learning approachable by aid of anything that is not another person. The many forms of AT go along with the thought behind UDL that all learners can gain access to the curriculum.
